![]() Peter drew attention to the newly launched boat register, which is now up and running and he called for input from the membership to build a useful archive. He emphasised that the committee alone cannot do this, the information has to come from individual members and he hoped that all owners would enter their boat details onto the register, readily accessed from the area website. Peter also drew the distinction between our boat register and the emerging boat data base, managed by the central OGA; ours is intended to be a valuable and detailed archive of gaff rigged and classic craft, accessible in full by any member, whereas the central OGA boat data base will be essentially a record of vessels owned by members, to be used mainly for administrative purposes by the central committee. ![]() 'Thaar she blows' Clare reported that the area finances are in the black, with the savings from having the Eastcoaster on-line beginning to feed through and each of the year’s events making a modest profit. The officers and committee said they were all willing to stand again and were re-elected en-bloc.
Then followed the presentation of trophies. A full list of trophy winners will be published on the website soon, but mention must be made of the Bateman trophy. This is given annually to the member judged to have contributed most to the EC area and was awarded to Lorna Hill, who provided the quote of the evening; after hearing the president read out a list of all her achievements through the year, including organising the Southwold rally, Waverley cruise and helping out – unasked - at other events, said ‘I thought that’s what committee members do’. A raffle was held to raise funds for the area, followed by an auction. Roy Hart put in the winning bid for a superb, but very large, boathook donated by Barry Edwards, but the climax of the evening was the auction of a new state-of-the-art chartplotter, donated by Sue Lewis and Howard Wheelton. After some brisk bidding, it went for £350 to Trevor Rawlinson and the proceeds will be shared by the east coast and Dutch areas.
That concluded the business part of the evening and members then enjoyed supper, followed by music from ‘Fourplay’. Altogether a very enjoyable event. - Roy Hart for his trip to the Scillies in Greensleeves The Needham trophy for the boat over 100years old, scoring most points 2009 events - Transcur, owned by Peter Thomas The Felgate trophy awarded to the gaff rigged boat accumulating most points through the 2009 season - Charm, owner Robert Hill Second; Gwenili, owned by Martin Goodrich Third; Transcur, owned by Peter Thomas The Bermuda Triangle trophy, awarded to the highest points scoring bermudan rigged boat in the 2009 season - Flamingo, owned by Steve Meakin Second; Elfreda, owned by Mike McCarthy Third Random, owned by Barry Edwards The Bateman trophy, awarded to the member who has contributed most to the East Coast area during 2009, was given to Lorna Hill.
