EAST COAST AREA OLD GAFFERS

Membership
Membership of the OGA is held Centrally, not on the East Coast. Currently (2007) subscription levels are £20 single member, £23 Family Member and £5 Junior. You don't have to own an old gaffer to belong to the OGA, it is the interest in tradtional gaff rigged craft and the sailing thereof which is important.
The OGA has approximately 1400 members world- wide. The organisation is based on a main Central Adminstration, which handles membership, a central archive, a website, general policy matters and consultations with official bodies, such as Government and EU. The Sailng Activity and social side is handled by area organisations in the British Isles. There are independent OGA organisations in France, Netherlands/ Belgium and Australia.
Members of the OGA receive the "Gaffers Log" which is produced by the Central OGA. If you are based on the East Coast, you also receive separately "Eastcoaster", the local area newsletter. The majority of your subscription supports the Central organisation, areas like the East Coast are mostly self supporting, funding be raised from event entry fees and donations.
To join the OGA click here for the Central OGA Website, which has membership and direct debit forms which can be downloaded to your computer. You can also join and pay your subscription on-line.
If you are on the East Coast, please could you also complete the East Coast Old Gaffers Boat Data Form. This can be down loaded here as a word document. Please can you email as an attachment to p.m.thomas@talk21.com, together with picture(s) in jpeg format. Alternatively post to:

Here on the east coast we have 916 boats on our database. These records cover boat entries over the last couple of decades, and include some boat histories. All the information is forwarded to the central OGA register, to be incorporated into the main boat register. Quite apart providing the basis for handicapping, the data is of national maritime importance and as such we would like it to be as accurate as possible. Many members have craft of great interest with unusual history, so please send this in, and we will incorporate it into the register for future generations to enjoy.
For those of you that will be racing next year - please make sure you have sent us your current measurements.
There will be a 10% additional handicap for all those who have not confirmed their measurements during 2004-2005, and committee members may offer to check the measurements of your new sails if they look unexpectedly large!
So please if you have not already, please fill out a boat registration form - below or request one to be sent (Pete Thomas 01473 832808).

(1) Bermudan boats ignore "head" measurement on mainsail
(2) Fore Triangle is measured from highest jib sheave to deck, no account is taken of actual foresails.
 |
Tips: Take the measurements from your sails for mains'l, tops'l and miz'n.
For the fore triangle measure highest jib sheave to deck, and bowsprit sheave to mast.
