Classic Bermudan’s and the OGA
Why the OGA?
The Old Gaffers Association on the East Coast has welcomed Classic Bermudan’s for many years. As a Rig Association you may feel that this is a little odd. Well, we feel that owners of other special vessels have much in common with the ethos of the OGA. Why not have a chat with one of our active Bermudan owners. They will tell you all about it. Better still, come and join us at one of our events!
What is a Classic Bermudan?
Bermudan rigged vessels built before 1960, or vessels accepted by VKSJ, or vessels built after 1960 in traditional timber, but to pre 1960 design. Other vessels of traditional construction (not GRP or exotics) not complying with the above, but built in the spirit of classic yachts may be considered by the committee.
Bermudan’s race in their own class.
In East Coast Old Gaffers events, Bermudan rigged yachts race as a separate class for their own prizes, using the OGA handicap system. The social and all the rest is a totally joint affair with the Gaffers, with much singing and some good natured jesting about various benefits of the two rigs.
