Dutch Classic Regatta (17-7-09)
This biennial event is organised by the Dutch VKSJ with the support of the Dutch and EC OGA’s and is the premier classic event in Holland, with almost 200 entries, including 36 gaffers. To further cement Anglo/Dutch relations, a week’s cruise in company on our east coast was arranged to take place prior to the main event in Holland. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate and the Dutch visitors’ arrival was delayed several days, but all had a great time especially at an impromptu barbecue at our hon sec’s Wrabness country retreat.
The start of the race back across the North sea had to be delayed for 3 days because of the high winds and was downgraded to a ‘cruise’ in view of the forecast, but sixteen boats, including seven British, sailed across and enjoyed a fabulous week of racing, cruising, eating and drinking. The British contingent once again swept the board with Kestrel, Fanny of Cowes and Gwenili taking the first three places in the gaffers class.
